This depiction is Our Lady of San Juan.
It was created by, basically, an itinerant artist in the early 1800s.
And this particular artist is well-known for his, his dot decoration.
He was actually referred to as the Dot and Dash Santero.
These were used in family homes because villages were scarce and churches were even scarcer.
So as a result, sometimes you even see devotional candle burns, and this might be evidence of that on the front, where they had candles lit at their family altars, they would appeal to certain saints that would have their, their particular favorites.
They changed this particular painter's name to the Arroyo Hondo Painter because, um, one of his largest works is found in a chapel in Arroyo Hondo, which is about ten miles north of Taos, New Mexico.
And it's, really, it's in great condition.
It hasn't been scrubbed over, it hasn't lost any of its gesso.
And similar works like this tend to sell between $3,500 and $4,500, boards of this size.
So it's a... it was a wonderful gift, and she's, she's very soulful and very beautiful.
