[music] Welcome to the 2024 Lane College Homecoming Celebration and it is indeed a pleasure to be here with my co-host, Larry Joe Miller.
Good morning, Larry Joe.
Well, good morning Ms. Samuels.
It's an honor to be here on this fantastic Saturday mo.. We're looking for a fantastic homecoming parade.
I've been looking forward to it.
I've been hearing so much about it.
I'm just ready to see these amazing floats and amazing students and faculty that are taking the time to be in this parade.
-I know.
On this beautiful, a little chilly - -It is a little nippy out here.
It's a little nippy.
It's a little nippy out here-- But a beautiful day.
Yes.
The sun is out, not too cloudy.
We've got people that came out to support us sitting on the sidewalk.
It's a beautiful day.
It really is.
Larry Joe, this is your first year.
Now, am I the only one who says Larry Joe or is it Larry?
Tell me what-- -Well, I'm from Little Rock, Arkansas, so we have a lot of like nicknames for the men and women in the family.
I go by Larry Joe, Joe, Joe-Joe, LJ.
It just kind of depends on who's speaking to me, they know me on a personal level, or just on a one-name basis.
Yes.
I love it.
Tell me.
Okay.
So Larry Joe, you are a mass comm major, so tell me a little bit about your journey here at Lane?
-My journey here at Lane-- Oh, look at the little guy.
[chuckles] Oh, look at him.
We have so many-.
Thumbs up.
amazing people here.
Thumbs up.
Thumbs down.
How are you feeling about the parade, Man?
Any kind of-- [chuckles] Any kind of-- you feel about it?
[chuckles] I'm a senior here at Lane College majoring in mass communication and creative media, minoring in marketing, looking into getting into integrated media marketing once I get done with my undergraduate degree here at Lane College.
My journey through mass communication has really been a wild one.
Your internship?
Did you not have an internship in D.C.?
Yes.
I had the internship with UNC of United Negro College Fund working the UNC of K-12 initiative in Washington D.C. for about two and a half months.
There I learned how to work community engagement.
I learned how to communicate with families and the community about events that was being thrown at the school.
It was really an amazing experience.
Shout out to the United Negro College Fund for providing that experience and still provided more experiences for Black students just like me.
Shout out UNCF for all the amazing work that you're doing in our communities.
Yes.
I agree with the United Negro College Fund has been around for many, many years.
Lane College is appreciative of all the resources that they also provide.
Of course, talking about the scholarships but also those internship opportunities.
Just thankful to have you here today to help me navigate through this wonderful day.
The parade departed the campus and we're excited that we have some student organizations who are involved in the parade this year, a lot of fun floats, and decorated cars.
Yes.
Then we take on Central State University.
Oh, that's going to be a game to remember right there.
It was so difficult just getting up here to downtown in here at Jackson, Tennessee in front of Cadence Bank.
It was just so difficult to get here because all the amazing floats, all the amazing young dance teams and cheerleading teams, the band.
Oh, people had their floats.
It was just taking up the street.
It's really a show that's about to happen.
I can't wait for y'all to see it.
Yes.
We have several bands that will be a par.. Haywood County, Humboldt High School, Fayette Ware.
Of course, our very own Quiet Storm.
Looking forward to that.
Woodstock Middle School out of Ripley.
Ripley, Tennessee.
Yes.
Ripley, Tennessee.
Shout out Ripley.
-They will be with us and .. -They could be with us.
--will be amazing.
-JCM.
-I know.
We're excited.
We're here.
This year's theme, Larry Joe, is Dragons Forever.
Yes.
Definitely.
I love that.
I love that theme.
Here we go.
We're rounding the cor.. Lane College.
Jackson, Tennessee.
That's the great Mr. Christopher in front leading our band.
That's our band director that we mentioned just not too long ago.
He has got our band sounding A-1.
One thousand watts of sound.
[laughter] One thousand watts of sound.
That's definitely true.
-Yes.
Mr. Christopher Jefferson is from Memphis.
He is.
He is.
From Memphis, Tennessee.
On occasions, he would hav..
He has a great team.
He has some great students.
We enjoy every moment of our band.
I mean, yes, it's just that-- I've got to make sure I get my mic close.
[laughs] Get your mic.
The drum major is a..
I know.
He's doing good.
He's doing good.
[music] I like this song.
This is the Hay Song.
[chuckles] This is what song?
-The hay song.
-Okay.
Oh, yes.
This leans to the quality and the sound that this band is providing.
This is what the hours of preparation is getting ready for.
Look at our dancers in the front leading the way.
They've worked so hard.
Yes.
[music] Lane College Marching Band.
What a fantastic look.
Fantastic sound.
Fantastic band.
Shout out to Lane College Choir Storm.
[music] I like this cadence.
You hear this cadence in the middle of the night.
That's why I like it.
[chuckles] It's been beating to my head.
Yes.
[laughter] Yes.
In your sleep.
[music] This is [?]
coming behind them is our cheerleader team.
They have expanded over time.
Yes.
Slowly but surely.
[music] Listen to that sound.
They're looking good.
In sync, in unison every step.
[music] Now, you can't tell me that doesn't sound good.
You can't tell me that doesn't sound good, Ms. Samuels.
Just listen to it.
I'm all ears.
Shout out to our flag girls.
Man, they twirlin' them flags.
Man, they've been practicing every night every day.
They've been practicing so hard.
Man, that band is good.
I just love how our school has expanded over time.
Four years ago, our school dwindled a little bit because of COVID.
It's really starting to get back to that real HBCU experience.
They're getting their rhythm back, get the rhythm back.
Yes.
They're starting to get back to the swing of things.
Ls.
[chuckles] Shout out to our cheerleaders.
They look amazing on this fine morning.
You said this is the Corvette Club?
Yes.
Well, here is your parade, Marshal.
Being escorted by two students, Mr. Summers and Mr. Sanders, serving as Lamman Rucker's -.
he's our parade marshal.
Yes.
It is nice, clean, cand.. with the chrome shiny wheels.
That's too smooth right there.
Lamman Rucker was awarded his Doctor of Humane Letters from Lane in 2019.
He has really fallen in love with Lane College.
We're happy to have him back here today as our parade marshal.
Is he going to come?
I guess he's going to come after-- This was a surprise for you, Larry.
He's going to sit next to you.
Remove that bag there, Larry.
At some point, he's going to come over.
This bag, ma'am?
-Yes.
-Okay.
Yes.
Well, what we going to do?
He's going to have a conversation with us.
I'll put this to the side.
He's going to sit over here and talk to us.
Then we have our president following behind him.
Oh, look.
Everybody's cheering more.
It's like, "Yes."
That's the man right there.
It's not only about how we have our Interim President, Dr. Comer, man.
He's been doing an amazing job as Interim Pre.. coming in and making immediate improvements.
Yes.
We're excited about-- Oh, he's getting-- he's hopping out.
The car's so clean.
What is this?
You know our president's not playing with you.
No.
He's not playing.
He is going to come and represent everything.
Man, he drip and drown every day.
He's drip and drown.
Drip?
Wait.
Are we going to talk..
He going to know something about it.
He might know a little something about it.
Oh, wow.
That is hilarious, Larry.
Then we have our other President, Glenn Vaulx, who served as our Interim President in 2013, 2014.
Then his lovely wife is going to be coming shortly.
Now he's coming out of the blue Corvette.
It's like a midnight blue.
-Yes.
-I love that.
Then we have our Board Chair.
Yes?
We're in unison, huh?
Yes.
Good morning.
Good morning, Mr. President.
We're going to have Lamman to come over and talk to us.
It's a great pleasure.
Get him over here.
This is our Board Chair, Marvin Frank Thomas.
He's the chair of the Lane College Board of Trustees.
We're just so happy to have him.
Dr. Rucker, Lamman, good to see you today.
We're going to give the mic to him so that he can say a word to us and say good morning to us.
Good morning.
-Hey.
-Yo, you're talking to the mic.
-All you.
-All you.
We're right here.
We're looking right here.
We live right now, man.
This is Larry Joe.
He's a student, mass comm.
-Larry Joe?
-Yes, sir.
-How're you doing, man?
-I'm doing g.. -Yes.
Larry.
-Good morning.
How are you, Ms. Samuels?
I'm doing well.
You're still with us.
Of course.
Of course.
Of course.
Good to see you this early morning, Saturday.
Happy homecoming.
Happy homecoming.
Dragons Forever.
All day.
Every day.
Yes.
Lamman, you were with us in 2019, but you were with us for commencement.
That's when you were awarded your Doctor of Humane Letters.
Since then, you said that you wanted to have a relationship, you wanted to be involved in the life of Lane College.
What is it that makes Lane special for you?
You know what?
One of the things I love about that question is that I'm still discovering exactly all the things that make this place so special.
First of all, I know for one thing, it's just a feeling.
I have always trusted my spirit.
I've always trusted God's peace and governance of my heart.
There's just something about it that I actually haven't been able to fully articulate yet because my relationship is still so new.
I know sincerely that it's something that I want to be a more significant part of.
I think this is the beginning of a great conversation.
It's been the beginning of a great relationship.
Even though 2019 is five years ago already, literally our whole world stopped right after that.
Then there's been leadership shifts and things like that.
I think this is really the perfect opportunity to now that we've reconnected and able to, I think, pick up where we left off.
I'm excited to lean into this community at large, not just the university environment, but just as we spoke about yesterday.
Every department and every school within the college that are within my wheelhouse, I would love the opportunity to teach, to be more involved, more engaged.
It was great speaking with so many wonderful alumni yesterday-.
And the students.
I spoke to several students.
There's so many things that are on their minds and on their hearts that I think I can bring some value to.
Shout out to Miss Lane College.
We want to recognize Miss Lane Coll.. -Miss Laila Cooper.
-Beautiful.
An amazing person.
Gorgeous.
Sharp.
Bright.
Brilliant young lady.
Really wonderful opportunity to talk to her and hang out with her yesterday, too.
While we was talking, we had our Mr. and Miss Homecoming, Alyssa Moore, and Marcus Berry come up on the stage wearing their amazing white.
They're looking sharp, too.
Pulling up right now, we have Alpha Phi Alpha's very own Mr. Lane College wearing some of Miss Stephanie Wilburn's.
Designs.
Custom designs.
One-on-one custom designs.
Shout out to Miss Wilburn for her creativity.
Tell Miss Wilburn I'm going to need one of them blazers.
[laughter] You won't see those blazers nowhere else.
I didn't know she was doing that.
All right.
Where are you?
All right.
I'm going to need one .. like a 46, 48, extra-long.
I'll have it.
I'll represent.
You got to get one of those on camera, man.
Before you know it, I'll be wearing that on my show while you're playing.
She already been working with over 400 celebrities, so why not be 400 more?
Oh yes?
Good for her.
Is she an alum or from this area?
Oh, she is from this area.
She's from this area.
I'll give you her contact information.
I'll have to make that happen.
Well, Lamman, she was at the President's Luncheon, and by the way, wonderful job at the President's Luncheon.
As you were talking about esse non videri and just having a heart for Lane.
The alum really appreciate your comments, so we thank you for that.
Oh, yes?
I got a lot of wonderful feedback, so I really appreciate that.
Again, like I said, speaking from the heart, being sincere.
I was told a long time ago-.
Shout out to [crosstalk] talk about what you know, and don't try to be something you're not.
Again, we spoke to that, too.
Right?
To be, not to seem, which I think is so very profound and significant.
That's the other thing about Lane that I think is so special.
I think fundamentally, the principles, its foundation, not just what it was and what it is and what it is still yet to be, but there's just consistency in the principle of what it stands for and what it represents.
That's universal.
Those things speak to me and I identify wit.. Every place doesn't necessarily do that.
That's part of what it is, too.
I think there's some really wonderful things happening here.
I just learned about-- even Gil Scott-Heron's connection to the city and to the community.
While you were riding through the grounds?
Absolutely.
That's one of my idols of all time.
Again, there's things like this.
There's so much richness here that not enough people know enough about.
Thank you.
Well, this is-- We're recognizing our organizational representation right now.
We have-- Miss UNCF, Kayla Ray.
Ms. Kayla Ray, she is also a part of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated.
Oh, who's the little princess with her?
Oh, sweet.
I don't know but doesn't she lo.. Then Mr. UNCF.
Ms. Terrence, Mr. Terrence Wilkins.
Looking sharp.
Give him a good wave, Terr..
Smile away.
Smile away.
Then our National Alumni President.
I love everybody with their crowns on.
Yes.
We all roiled out.
Everybody got their crowns this year.
It looks so amazing when they sit together.
There's just so many crowns.
Chapel every Wednesday.
Yes.
Belinda Browning is the National President for the Lane College National Alumni Association from Metro Atlanta.
Right.
I was about to say I met her yesterday, I have to make sure I know where to find her, too.
I work in and out and spend a lot of time in and out of Atlanta.
We have to make sure, be more connected to her.
What's next?
What's on your grid?
We're looking to go back into production on the Black Hamptons as soon as possible.
There's always stuff going on on the business side in this business.
Relative to things happening at the studio level, the network level, a lot of people may or may not be aware we had a huge labor strike last year around this time.
That delayed and pushed back a lot of schedules.
A lot of production cycles have been completely derailed.
Now, who is this pulling up?
In the G-Wagon?
That's our SGA President.
Black Hamptons will be coming back.
Then I have a holiday movie called Kismet Holiday that's also scheduled to release this holiday season.
Wonderful.
This is the G-Wagon.
Now this G-Wagon is for real.
This is the Student Government Association President.
-Mr. Keith Jordan Jr. of Memphis, Tennessee from Raleigh.
Look at the red interior.
From Raleigh.
You got to let him say it.
He got that Memphis slang from Raleigh.
Keith is an amazing person.
He's also a fellow mass comm major.
Amazing person.
He's a model.
He's a photographer.
He's a creator.
Look at this truck full of our amazing representation of our class.
The Class Royals.
You met Ebony Lamman and you know Ebony.
Ebony is somebody.
She's on it.
Oh, what's his first name?
In the back?
Andrew.
Andrew Caesar.
Andrew?
Andrew Caesar.
Anthony.
-Andrew.
-He's Andrew.
That's what I thought.
He was good.
We have Miss Real money, right?
Yes.
Real money is-- is she--?
I think she is-- President of PEC, but wh.. She's the president of something.
-I know she's Pre-Alumni Council.
Right?
Pre-Alumni Council.
Pre-Alumni Council.
Oh, yes, Ms. Broceria(ph) We have-- -Is this Ms. Crimson?
Ms. Crimson and Cream Yes.
This is Ms. Crimson and Cream.
Ms. Crimson and Cream.
Oh, yes.
We're getting to the lit part now.
Every day of the year, coordinating.
They getting wrecked.
-So many [crosstalk] this is happening here.
Good morning.
How y'all doing?
Good morning.
Good morning.
Yes.
They lit.
This is our Jackson Chapter right here.
Our Jackson Chapter Alumni Association, man.
They take so much time with us.
They come, see their face.
You see their face on the campus all the time.
One of my hairstylists, Shifante.
Let me please give a shout-out to her.
All right.
Mr. and Mrs. Let me, I missed the-- Liberty, did it say Top Teens?
Oh, Top Teens of America.
Wonderful.
-Top Teens of America.
-Top Teens of America.
-I like it.
[crosstalk] There's Dr. LaToshia Chism who's on-- a member of the faculty here.
Yes.
Top Teens of America.
Lamman, did you get a chance to hear the band?
Were you-- because they led the parade.
Sounding good.
Yes, that boom, it boomed.
That drum section was real.
-Yes.
We have a very good-- -The band is the Quiet Storm.
-Right?
-Yes.
We have a very good drum line.
-It wasn't quiet.
[crosstalk] You know they're here.
You know they're here.
Yes.
This is the Northeast-.
-All right.
Northeast Jaguars.
--Jaguars.
The cheer team.
I really like their jackets.
They have nice jackets.
Yes.
These are good colors.
These colors get your attention.
They got potential.
They're about to represent and do their thing.
We welcome the Northeast Middle School Cheer Team.
[cheerleaders cheering] [crosstalk] The show must go on.
[cheerleaders cheering] This is the type of rhythm that I'm accustomed to.
[cheerleaders cheering] [applause] Yes.
Jackson, let's go.
[crossta..
They take point.
They made they point.
"Jackson, let's go."
Well, thank you so much-- [laughter] -I thought they was waving bye.
[laughter] I'm just waving at everybody.
[cheerleaders cheering] I almost got one of those scarves in the bookstore yesterday.
I should've got it.
I should have got that scarf.
They definitely should have got that scarf.
I'm thinking [crosstalk] I'm taking a point of personal privilege.
I need you to wave at my children right there.
They're waving at you.
Right there?
Yes.
[laughter] I see the resemblance.
I'm sorry I had to do that.
-That's okay.
There's nothing wrong with it.
They're fans of Lamman so-- and all of us are.
One of the students, was it Lemanuel Mr. Lane when he was doing his introduction of you, he said, "You're my mom's favorite actor."
[laughs] Yes.
That's what's starting to get weird.
It's not just mom.
It's like, "My grandma loves you."
[laughter] "My granddad said you're the man."
I'm like, "Your grandad?"
They make you feel old.
It does.
Also, yesterday, matter of fact, even a couple of the freshmen were like, "I grew up watching you."
You're like, "Oh, yes?
Your whole life?
Thanks, buddy."
[laughter] This is Riverview-.
Oh, yes.
Riverview.
home of the Vikings, Memphis, Tennessee.
I came all the way from Memphis to show love.
[music] They're sharp.
They are sharp.
You see that already.
[cheerleaders cheering] You know what?
What I love about stuff like th.. you can tell they're also, well, I guess around the same age as the other young ladies before them.
The fact that you just mentioned they came that far to do something like this, these are the things that help young people like this get in the practice of what this really requires of them.
By the time they're doing this back in Memphis, they've gone outside of Memphis to do this enough times, that it's just going to tighten this whole thing.
-It's like clockwork.
It's like clockwork.
[cheerleaders cheering] [crosstalk] -Uh-oh.
They got a lift.
Oh, right now?
They got stunts.
They stuntin'.
[cheerleaders cheering] Thank you, Riverview, home of the Vikings, Memphis, Tennessee.
You remember earlier, we had mentioned Haywood County Humbold..
I know I should've brought my scarf.
--and this looks like-- -I had my own scarf.
Dragons forever.
You said what now, Lamman?
I had my own scarf but then [crosstalk] Lamman, you have been talking about this since 7:00 A.M. No.
It's just reminding me-.
Class of 1969. of my mistakes this morning.
Class of 1975.
I'm not going to take it from you.
Since 7:00 A.M., we've been talking-- -Oh, man.
-Miss JCM.
I'm just kicking myself.
Larry Joe was trying to tell us about Miss?
JCM.
The JCM band Oh, it's Raleigh.
Raleigh's neighbors to us.
-Yes.
They are neighbors across Detroit.
We have a lot of community service.
Andre, Darnell, and-- You better go find it.
Shout out to little Jackson.
School board.
School board.
She's a Lane graduate.
[music] Oh, we get to listen to another band, Larry Joe.
We get excited over the band.
We do get excited over the band.
That's what makes a parade.
I really like the drum lines.
The drum lines to me is what makes it cool.
[music] [applause] [?]
They call it everywhere.
[music] Okay.
Is that your song, Larry?
Yes.
This is Jay and Sue's song.
[music] All right.
[?]
High School.
[music] Shout out to that flute player.
He's blowing that tool.
[music] All right.
Jackson Central Merr.. Cougars right here from Jackson, Tennessee.
Lamman has gone through, as the fashion show, [crosstalk] you all went through those different scenes.
Now Lamman is going to come with a different scene.
[laughter] Shout out to this drum major right here.
She's playing.
She's playing clear as day.
[?]
Just get back to leading.
Shout out to her for doing that.
Thank you, Superintendent Marlon King.
He is a huge supporter of Lane College and it's so wonderful to have JCM, Jackson, Tennessee.
Thank you Mayor Conger for all of your support.
The community wraps its arms around Lane College and it's so important for us to have that partnership with the community.
I like these cars.
I like this Mustang right here.
Now this car is very creative.
I like the dragon and the football on the front.
Very homecoming.
You would say yes to this?
They're being judged.
Yes.
This is pretty much the creative of this car.
The most creative car.
Yes.
It's reflective of the..
Yes.
The most creative car I've seen so.. She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Fall '89.
-Of course, she is.
[?]
Now she has Kimberly Hicks who is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha.
Did we get the name of the-- I didn't see who she was really representing.
I didn't either.
[chuckles] It is one of the most creative cars.
We have our Masonic Lodge here in Jackson, Tennessee.
Jackson, Tennessee.
They're talking about some, "Over here."
Yes.
Throw one.
"Throw one up here."
"Up here."
[laughs] Jackson Jewels Majorettes.
Okay.
Jackson Jewels.
Dragons Forever.
This year's homecoming.
Larry, I guess the Homecoming Committee will think of next year.
You got any ideas off the top of your mind?
You like to-- you said you're in marketing, you'd like to--?
I definitely think that we need to get some type of performer to come and perform-- Student choice, almost like get them a chance to pick at least one or two artists that they like to hear and listen to, give a good homecoming show.
I think that will be something good for the school and the community.
Jackson Jewels is here and they are representing.
I really like this black and silver.
Yes.
I love the uniform.
I think, yes, Bill's going to perform for the review assembly.
"Bill to women.
Vote" [cheerleaders cheering] -This is the-- -Let's vote.
Let's vote.
Let's vote.
Let's vote.
Let's vote.
Let's vote.
Let's vote.
Let's vote.
Let's vote.
Let's vote.
Let's get out there to the polls.
Let's vote.
Let's get out there to the polls, make sure y'all vote.
Speaking of voting, we might as well go ahead and go d..
It's really about seven easy steps that you can do.
First, make sure that you're registered to vote.
Just check.
That's your first step.
Two, you pick a day to vote.
Early voting starts October 16th through October 31st.
You can vote on Election Day, Tuesday, November the 5th, from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
The next step, which is the third step, you review your ballot on govote.tn.
You go vote tn.gov.
Step three is you review your ballot.
Go vote tn.gov.
Just to go download or scan your QR code below.
You can download it and have it as an app on your phone.
That's extremely important because everybody, every state has different guidelines.
It's really important to check and make sure all your information is current, to check whether or not identification is required, to check, make sure you've got the proper precinct.
You also want to check and make sure you get a chance-- You can also review your ballot.
You can go to-- What is it?
govotetn.gov.
You can also review the ballot.
That way, when you go to vote, it helps streamline the process because you typically can see a sample ballot, review the ballot ahead of time, and go in, and do your thing.
Those are really important steps.
That's pretty much it.
All right.
As a matter of fact, look a.. -Yes.
"Learn about easy voting."
If you're a student, your student ID is not acceptable, you have to show a state ID.
If you use the touchscreen to vote, you put your ballot into the box, and election workers will assist you if needed.
Step five, you talk to others about voting and bring a friend to vote.
I suggest you just bring a friend to vote.
We need to get as many people to these polls as possible.
I don't know about talking about or who you're voting for.
Yes.
You don't have to share that.
Nobody's required to-- that is a private choice.
Exercise your rights.
That's why even when you vote, it's confident..
I definitely agree on exercising your vote no matter what your vote is.
Make your voice heard.
We recommend early voting in case you're unable to vote on election day.
Also, there also may be longer lines.
There's going to be long lines.
Early voting is going on now.
Make sure you get to those polls early.
Yes.
Now is the time.
A lot of places, they have local libraries.
They have all kinds of things set up in different places, different voting locations.
Oh, I didn't even see what she did in the middle.
The acrobatics over here are serious.
She's going on the concrete.
-On the concrete?

This is an amazing tracksuit made by none other than Prep Curry with his floor designs.
This is what I was talking about school spirit and having diversity within our bookstore when it comes to student apparel because school spirit starts from apparel, things that you can wear, branding, and marketing.
Thank you to Prep Curry for taking the time out to design these amazing jumpsuits.
We look forward to see you.
Listen, every time I come up here, I'm bringing.. [laughter] Because I'm leaving with all-- I want a whole Lane wardrobe.
Every time I visit, I'm leaving with merchandise.

Let's create some Lamman Rucker signature merchandise or something.
Okay.
I'm checking out this-- You know what I'm saying?
You should give Ms. Stephanie Wilburn, she makes custom, had one award.
Yes.
It doesn't even necessarily have to be so much as one of a kind things, but just certain items that would be, if not created or designed or envisioned by me or us, things that are like, "This are part of Lamman Rucker collection."
[crosstalk] Curated, ideas, or concepts or designs.
They can be designed by different people but-- You can have contests.

Ain't nobody grooving like Mike, for real, no more.
[music] Hold up.
I don't know this song.

We are here at the intersection of Church Street and-- Main.
What street are we on?
We're on Main Street.

JCM, Jackson Central Merry High School.
-Central Merry.

I passed right by-- I'm sorry.
-[crosstalk] -I recognize the other colors.
I like these colors.
Green is one of my favorite colors.
I definitely like this green glow-in-black.
It's very contrasting with the touch of the bows, too.
You're right.
They brought the-- They're going to give us a little show.
They got something to say to Lane.
I don't know what they say.
You've got the D at the end.

We're going to see.
[chuckles] LCD.
Lane College Dragons.
Lane College Dragons.
I didn't see the C. Where did you see it?
[cheerleaders cheering] It's in the middle right here?

All this bass today.
[cheerleaders cheering] They came out busy, man.

They handled their business.
That's right.
-I think we need to be [?].
There we go.
I think they're up there.
Yes.
They definitely are up there.
That was good.
That was creative.
That was organized.
Listen, I'm glad I'm not a judge because th.. Creative, organized [crosstalk] They have been so many great crews and bands and dance teams.
West Tennessee PBS.
West Tennessee PBS.
You know, Larry Joe, West Tennessee PBS is still about internship opportunities for our Lane students.
They are and specifically one of my frat brothers, Terrance Bryce, he interns for PBS on occasion.
Good.
That's great to know though.
That's great to know.
He'll fly out there on the weekend..
I'm going to have to pay them a visit too.
Yes, definitely do that.
Always one of the PBS Kids is definitely one of my favorite resources for the young children in my life, so I have to pop my head in down there.
Oh, is that Daniel the Tiger?
Yes, it's Daniel the Tiger.
You want a picture with Daniel, or something?
Okay, Daniel.
That is so funny.
Lamman, what is your favorite aspect of the parade?
Larry and I were talking about the bands.
When you think about Collegiate Parade, always had to have bands.
What's the good part [?]
parade?
For me, it's the people, honestly.
It's the way that no matter what, a parade never gets old.
Right.
Yes.
Again, I love, this small-town energy, this family community vibe, and how we're out here and again, celebrating everybody.
We're talking about some of our really small young children, to our teens and pre-teens, to the aunties and uncles out here line dancing to our college kids.
It's just one of these things where the whole community comes together.
Everybody comes out, and I think that's my favorite part.
It feels like just a big family reunion-type vibe.
-We're all cousins.
We're all cousins.
It's like yes.
Exactly, you know what I'm saying?
It's that type of energy.
I think that's always my favorite part of para.. is like, "You going?"
"Yes, I'm going."
"We're going.
Okay."
What's going to happen?
Even though you know what's going to..
It never gets old, and I think this just says something just about us as people and as a community.
We just love being together, celebrating each other, having a good time.
It's a beautiful day, so I think that's it for me.
It's the family and community.
Yes, for sure.
Everything else is icing on the cake.
[music] -Mr. and Mrs. Lane trying to get a picture.
With Daniel.
I guess they couldn't get it.
[music] [cheering] They definitely got a rhythm.
[music] [cheering] Aren't they cute?
All right, y'all.
Is it PTX?
I couldn't see it.
Here we go.
Here we go.
I think it is DTX.
DTX, okay.
We were talking about our community partners.
We have Cadence Bank and the City of Jackson.
EPlus TV, Jackson Energy Authority.
They have been sponsors for our golf tournament and making sure all those golfers were having a good time on Thursday.
The Community Economic Development Commission provides grant so that we can support some of our homecoming activities.
Is it me or do they all look alike?
Right, they're all related.
They all do.
I think they're all sisters.
They all might be reated.
Those two could be twins.
They all look just alike.
They really do.
It could be a family thing.
Oh, it's got to be, and they're all like scare steps.
It's like she's a miniature version of her.
She's a miniature version of her.
-You can tell.
-Right?
They look just alike.
I like the little sneakers.
Those are so cute.
-Yes.
-They are.
They good at that.
The sneakers really pull down the whole outfit.
Oh.
-Oh, that's all they got for us.
[?].
Shout out to those young ladies.
They've got to be related.
That's bugging me out.
Now this is an interesting float.
We have representative Shaw here.
John and Shaw.
Representative Shaw.

They got some swag in there, man.
I'm eyeballing everybody.
I see something raining.
[?]
Oh, you going to see a blue, white, and red sweatshirt.
It look like Tommy Hilfiger almost, but it's late.
Yes, you going like that.
That's a nice one, too?
Yes.
I was trying to find where they're getting them.
They like to hide the good gear.
I don't know why they hiding it from us.
He came to get interviewed.
You take it, Larry.
-I don't know what to do.
[chuckles] Lamman got it.
Lamman got it.

It just ran through my head.
I wasn't going to say nothing.
I bring them out.
What I'm saying-.
I wasn't going to say nothing.

When everybody knows I'm in the party.

[singing] Is that deep enough for you, Lamman?
Is that deep enough for you?
Yes, right.
[singing] -It's beautiful.
What I love or what's funny is almost sound like, "It's a new girl toy talking at the mill."
My daddy said, "[?]
".
It sounds like the voice that they would use to mock us.
It's funny because it's not their natural register.
You can also see how much practice it takes for them to still enunciate but still.
I can't help but think about it as an artist and as a vocalist and also as a vocal coach, which I can and how much just that practice of articulation and the training that you go through in phonetics and how you've got to make sure you take care of your voice, you know what I mean.
Take care of your body.
[singing] All right.
Cougars.
Good job, girls.
[singing] I guess all the guys they're saving all that stuff for tomorrow, they're like, "[?]"
Where are the fraternities?
Where are the guys?
Where are the young boys and drill ..

He took the microphone and has never left.

As we take on this win, just going just-- As we take on this win against Interstate, there shouldn't be too much competition.
It's Interstate though.
That's the popular move right there.
[laughter] They love that beat.
They caught that beating.
Yes, that's it right there.
This is what they love to do.
I say the babies love to do it and it's not doing anything to harm anybody or the community.
Let them be.
